The Importance of English

Frankly speaking, it is highly essential to know the language for communication. In general, the most popular language is English. In this computer age, English is the only language that any one can understand. So to say, it has become as an ideal language for expressing our feelings. First, we have to learn the language and then we have to gain fluency in the language. Unless we have the fluency in English language, it would not be possible to work with the computer. If you do not know English, then you would be in need of a translator to do the job.

The first stage of learning this language would be very interesting. Once you are fluent with the alphabets, slowly you can learn many words. It would always be better to follow the method of reading first, then writing. You can use the picture books for this purpose. When you feel that you are familiar with the words, you can form sentences. This is the most interesting stage to learn. You just think of a sentence in your mother language, and try to write the same sentence in English. There could be some mistakes. But you should not bother about it. But, you have to write the same sentence using many different words till you are satisfied with your sentence. If you follow this way, very soon you can create sentences of your own.

The next step is learning the grammar of the language. It is quite simple and very systematic compared with other languages. There are certain rules and regulations for each and every topic in grammar of this language. As long as you follow the rules and regulations, it would be a difficult task to make mistakes. You would gain that much guidance from the grammar. The presentation is the most important factor in communicating your feelings. So, naturally you must be sure while you are presenting. what you really wish to say. At any point, do not try to write or speak, beyond your capability. Even if it is a small and simple sentence, it would reach the receiver perfectly. This is our basic idea. Slowly, you can improve the standard of your language by practice. If you know to form the sentences, it is more than enough to go deep into the subject. Though this only an article about the importance of the English Language, we have to learn some of the basic points in presenting the sentences. There are three different types of sentences: They are, 1. Statements. 2. Interrogative sentence. 3. Imperative sentence. 4. Exclamatory sentence. To begin with, you must know the difference between a phrase and a sentence.

Phrase is a group of words, which gives meaning, but not complete meaning. A sentence is a group of words, which makes a complete sense.

1. Statement: The sentence starting with nouns or pronouns is known as statement.

Example: Rome is a church city.
2. Interrogative sentence: There are two types of interrogative sentences.

“wh” type question. The sentences starting with the following fords are “wh” type question. What, When, Where, Who, How many, How long and etcetera. Example: 1. Why did you come late? 2. What are you doing there?
“yes or no” type question. For which sentences you get the reply either with yes or no they are called yes or no type question.

Example: Is your father a doctor? The answer: No sir.

3. Imperative sentence: The sentence that gives command, request, and advice is known as Imperative sentence.

Example: 1. Walk on the pavement. 2. Eat regularly.

4. Exclamatory sentence: The sentence that expresses the sudden feelings or strong emotions is known as exclamatory sentence.

Example: 1. Alas! He is dead. 2. Oh! What a beautiful sight.

When you are familiar with the above points, it would be very interesting to you to create many wonderful sentences. In general, the sentences are divided into three different kinds. They are, 1. Simple sentence. 2. Compound sentence. 3. Complex sentence.

Though it is very essential to have knowledge in handling the above sentences, we have to study them separately. In this essay, we are talking about the importance of the language. Many people make mistakes even with the usage of articles. It is a pity that even scholars may make mistakes. So, you should not get dejected with your style of writing.

There is a lot of difference between these two. 1. a few 2. few When you want to say that you have friends, you have to say that, “I have a few friends”. When you want to say that you do not have friends, you have to say that, “I have few friends.”

This is the opposite meaning of the word, many. Apart from these, there are many points to be discussed later. When you feel that you are already strong on the above subjects, you can develop your knowledge for betterment of your knowledge. As long as you educate yourself, you will come across many new things. There is no end for learning. All the above points are used in the normal usage of English. The literature value of the English Language is entirely different and should be dealt separately.

Cara Buat Halaman (Pages) Statis

Deretan menu di blog saya bagian atas seperti “About”, “Refleksi”, “Opini”, “Tip Menulis” itu adalah salah satu ciri khas dari blog dalam wordpress yang tidak ada di blogger.com/blogspot. Dalam istilah WordPress itu disebut Pages atau Halaman. Pages atau Halaman ini adalah halaman statis yang tidak masuk dalam arsip posting. Apa gunanya? Lihat keterangannya di bawah. Berikut cara membuat Pages atau Halaman (statis) di WordPress.

1. Setelah login, klik “Tulis” atau “Write”
2. Klik “Halaman” atau “Page”
3. Di “Judul Halaman” -> tulis nama halaman. Contoh, “Refleksi” atau “Bukutamu”
5. Klik menu “Terbitkan” atau “Publish”
6. Selesai. Anda sudah berhasil membuat Pages/Halaman statis di blog Anda.

Apa isi atau fungsi Pages/Halaman?

Macam-macam, terserah Anda. Isinya bisa berupa keterangan diri seperti di About blog saya atau daftar link-link posting blog Anda atau bisa juga berupa link-link situs penting atau blogrolls, dll.

Cara Mengedit Pages/Halaman

1. Klik “Kelola” / “Manages” -> klik Halaman / Pages
2. Klik Pages/Halaman yang baru Anda buat tadi. Contoh, Refleksi.
3. Isi kotak posting sesuai yang Anda inginkan.

Tutorial Blog WordPress Lengkap

Setelah kita pelajari dan praktekkan cara buat blog di wordpress.com, maka berikut tutorial lengkap wordpress untuk memahami menu-menu yang ada di Dasbor atau Dashboar wordpress. Tutorial wordpress kali ini saya harap cukup mewakili setiap pertanyaan blogger pemula yang ngeblog di wordpress. Seri tutorial wordpress yang lain silahkan lihat di bagian bawah artikel ini.

Setelah login, kita akan langsung masuk ke Dashboard atau Dasbor. Di situ terdapat dua baris menu utama. Yang bagian atas atau sebut saja “menu atas” ada menu Dasbor (Dashboard), (a) Tulis (Write), (b) Kelola (Manage), (c) Desain (Design), (d)Upgrade.

Di bawahnya (saya sebut “menu bawah”) ada menu (a) Statistik blog (Blog Statistic), (b) Peselancar Blog (Blog Surfer), (c) Komentar Saya (My Comment), (d) Penyelancar Tag (Tag Surfer).

1. Fungsi Menu-menu bagian Atas

A. Tulis (Write): untuk (i) menulis posting tulisan kita; (ii) membuat Page / halaman statis / menu.

C. Kelola (Manage), kalau diklik akan muncul 6 (enam) submenu lagi sbb:

b.1. Tulisan (posts) berfungsi menampilkan artikel-artikel yang sudah kita posting. Kita juga dapat mengedit (menyunting) tulisan-tulisan tersebut dengan mengklik “sunting” atau “edit” di artikel yang akan diedit.
b.2. Halaman (pages), berfungsi menampilkan halaman statis / Pages yang sudah kita buat. Di sini kita bisa mengedit halaman yang ada atau membuat halaman baru.
b.3. Taut (Link) untuk menambah atau mengedit link / blogroll
b.4. Kategori (Category), untuk mengedit, mendelete atau membuat kategori baru.
b.5. Tag, untuk menambah, mendelete atau mengedit tag
b.6. Kategori Taut (Kategori link).
b.7. Pustaka Media, tempat link file atau image yang sudah diupload
b.8. Impor, untuk mengimpor file content dari blog lain.
b.9. Ekspor, untuk mengekspor file di blog ke blog lain.

C. Komentar (Comment), kalau diklik akan muncul 3 (tiga) submenu lagi sbb:

c.1. Komentar, menampilkan seluruh komentar di blog Anda. Di sini kita bisa mengedit atau mendelete komentar yang ada.
c.2. Menunggu Moderasi (Waiting Moderation), kalau diklik akan menampilkan komentar yang masuk daftar moderasi yang bisa Anda edit dengan “setujui” (approve), hapus (delete), spam (dianggap spam).
c.3. Akismet Spam, kalau diklik akan menampilkan komentar yang masuk daftar spam (sampah).

D. Blogroll (tambah link)
Kalau diklik akan muncul 4 (empat) submenu sbb:

d.1. Kelola (manage) blogroll, untuk mengedit, merubah atau menghapus taut (link) yang ada.
d.2. Tambahkan taut (Add link), untuk menambah link baru.
d.3. Impor taut (Import link), untuk mengimpor daftar link dg OPML atau file di komputer kita.
d.4. Kategori (category), kategorisasi link. Bedakan dengan kategori posting (lihat, b.4.)

E. Tampilan (Presentation), kalau diklik akan muncul 5 (lima) submenu sbb:

e.1. Tema (Theme), menampilkan daftar template yang bisa kita pilih untuk blog kita. Tinggal klik template yang kita suka.
e.2. Widgets, untuk mengaktifkan widget dan memilih widget yang ingin kita tampilkan di sidebar.
e.3. Extras, untuk mengaktifkan atau menon-aktifkan pratilik Snap. By default (aslinya) sudah aktif, klik tanda tik (uncheck) supaya tidak aktif. Saya lebih menganjurkan fasilitas Snap ini dinonaktifkan saja karena cukup mengganggu.
e.4. Current Theme Options, berfungsi untuk (a) merubah header blog. Bisa diganti dengan header buatan sendiri; (b) Setting warna dan posisi sidebar blog; (c) Mengisi informasi personal untuk ditampilkan sebagai data waktu memberi komentar; dan (d) untuk reset (menghapus dan mengembalikan ke setting-an awal.
e.5. Edit CSS, untuk merubah CSS template blog. Ini bagi blogger lanjut, tak cocok bagi pemula.

F. Pengguna (Users)

Untuk menambah user / pengguna yang memiliki akses ke blog Anda sebagai kontributor, co-author, atau subscriber. Anda bisa memiliki lebih dari satu user untuk akses ke blog Anda.

G. Opsi (Options). Kalau diklik akan muncul 8 (delapan) submenu sbb:

g.1. Opsi Umum, berfungsi untuk (a) Membuat atau mengedit judul blog, (b) Slogan (deskripsi) blog, (c) Memilih / mengedit bahasa yang digunakan di blog, (e) Dll.

g.2. Menulis atau Opsi Menulis, yang terpenting dalam submenu ini adalah menu “Kategori tulisan standar”. Pilih dari daftar kategori tentang kategori apa yang akan dipakai secara by-default di posting (saya piliha kategori fatih-syuhud). Ini artinya kalau saya lupa memakai kategori dalam sebuah posting, maka otomatis artikel tersebut akan masuk kategori fatih-syuhud.

g.3. Membaca atau Opsi Membaca. (a) Halaman Depan (Frontpage), pilih “Tulisan Terakhir” (sudah otomatis); (b) Halaman Blog (Blog post), pilih berapa artikel yang tampil di halaman utama; (c) Umpan Sindikasi (Syndicated Feed), “Tunjukkan yang terkini:” pilih 10; “Untuk tiap artikel, tunjukkan:”, pilih Teks Penuh; (d) Feeds yang diperkaya (Rich feeds), kasih tanda tik (check) di semua kotak. Jangan lupa klik “Perbarui Opsi” atau “Update Options”

g.4. Diskusi atau Opsi Diskusi

g.4.i. Di “Penataan biasa untuk sebuah artikel:” yang terpenting di sini adalah kotak ketiga. Kasih tanda tik di “Izinkan orang untuk mengirim komentar pada artikel” supaya kotak komentar terbuka di bawah setiap artikel Anda.

g.4.ii. Di “E-mail saya setiap kali:” (a) kasih tanda tik di kotak pertama bila Anda ingin dapat laporan ke email Anda setiap ada yang berkomentar di blog Anda; dan (b) kasih tanda tik di “Sebuah komentar ditahan untuk moderasi” apabila Anda ingin dapat email setiap ada komentar yang dimoderasi. Yang (b) ini khusus bagi blogger yang memoderasi kotak komentarnya.

g.4.iii. Di “Sebelum sebuah komentar muncul:” (a) Kasih tanda tik apabila ingin memoderasi setiap komentar (saran, sebaiknya tidak dimoderasi); (b) Kasih tanda tik di “Penulis komentar harus mengisi nama dan e-mail” apabila Anda ingin setiap komentator menulis alamat email dan situsnya; (c) Di “Penulis komentar harus mempunyai komentar yang disetujui sebelumnya” sebaiknya tidak dikasih tanda tik.

g.5. Privasi (Privacy). Opsi Privasi. Kasih tanda tik di “Saya ingin blog ini tampak di mesin pencari seperti Google dan Sphere, dan di senarai publik milik WordPress.com.” supaya masuk mesin pencari google, yahoo, msn, dll.

g.6. Hapus Blog atau Delete Blog.
Awas! Menu ini jangan dibuka-buka, kecuali kalau memang Anda dan blog Anda sudah bosan hidup.

g.7 yaitu OpenID dan g.8 Domain-domain. Submenu ini tidak begitu penting, yang penasaran silakan lihat sendiri.

Panduan membuat Blog di WordPress

1. Buka www.wordpress.com
2. Klik Sign Up
3. Isi form

Username: -> isi nama blog sesuai dengan keinginan (paling sedikit empat huruf/angka)
Password: Isi password/kata sandi (sedikitnya enam huruf/angka)
Confirm: Ulangi password yang sama dengan di atas.
Email Address: Isi email Anda (apabila belum punya email, buat dulu di gmail.com atau yahoomail.com)
Legal flotsam: beri tanda tik di kotak yang tersedia sebagai tanda “setuju” dengan perjanjian.
Beri tanda tik pada menu “Gimme a blog” (biasanya sudah otomatis ada tanda tik di sini).
Klik “Next”
Blog Title -> Isi judul yang sesuai.
Language -> Pilih Bahasa Indonesia.
Privacy -> Kasih tanda tik (biasanya sudah ada otomatis).

4. Klik Sign Up
5. Akan muncul pesan sebagai berikut:

Your account is now active!
You are now logged in as (username Anda).
An email with your username, password, Akismet API key and important links has been sent to your email address.
Write a post, change your template or visit the homepage.

Itu berarti Anda sudah berhasil membuat blog. Silahkan login ke blog Anda. Berikut alamat penting untuk Anda:
a. Untuk login, buka: http://namabloganda.wordpress.com/login.php
b. Isi username (=nama blog) dan password.
c. Klik “Write” atau “Tulis” untuk mulai membuat posting.
d. Klik “Publish” atau “Tampilkan”

6. Selesai (kalau mau udahan, jangan lupa klik “Log Out”).

Catatan:

Di wordpress.com, satu account hanya untuk satu blog. Ini berbeda dengan blogger.com/blogspot di mana satu account bisa untuk membuat beberapa blog.
Kelebihan wordpress.com dibanding blogger.com adalah (1) comment friendly: pengunjung mudah berkomentar karena kotak komentar langsung terbuka di bawah posting. Bagi Anda yang suka dikomentarin, wordpress cocok untuk Anda; (2) Posting terbaru akan muncul beberapa saat di Dashboard (Menu Utama) seluruh pemakai wordpress.com, apabila posting Anda cukup menarik Anda juga berkesempatan masuk BOTD (best of the day) yakni 10 posting terbaik hari itu dan akan muncul selama sehari di Menu Utama (Dashboard) seluruh pemakai wordpress.com. Untuk BOTD ini diklasifikasi berdasar bahasa. Pastikan Anda memilih Bahasa Indonesia pada saat mendaftar (lihat poin 3.i.)
Kekurangan wordpress.com dibanding blogger.com/blogspot adalah javascript tidak berfungsi (disabled) artinya Anda tidak bisa memasang iklan apapun–AdSense, Adbrite, dll–di wordpress.com. Tidak masalah buat blogger yang memang betul-betul ingin ngeblog saja, tanpa ada niat untuk iseng-iseng pasang iklan. Bagi yang ingin pasang iklan, dapat juga di blog gratis yang pakai software wordpress juga seperti blogsome.com atau blogs.ie. Sayangnya, kedua penyedia blog gratis ini masih memakai software wordpress lama (tak ada fasilitas widget, dan lain-lain).
